App development as a community affair.
Client: NPR
Coding can be exciting to do, but it’s boring to watch. NPR wanted to get coders and non-coders alike interested about contributing to their open-source Android app. We needed a way to make that process look tangible, accessible, and fun.
I hit on the idea of showing the process as a community art project—where we’d see a group of real people physically doodling, sketching, and crafting the app into existence on a large phone-shaped whiteboard. The film won an AIGA award for design.
