Pivotal is an organization of visionary pragmatists with an essentially unlimited budget. When you can fund anything, what is a story that connects everything?

Pivotal began by commissioning me to create an “internal magazine profile”: an outsider’s view on what Pivotal was really about. I interviewed C-suite and other stakeholders at length, creating clear explanations of Pivotal’s wide-ranging investment and incubation portfolio—and distilling a throughline that tied them all together. In a word: power. But not Pivotal’s power—their partners’.

With this document as inspiration, my engagement expanded to include creative and editorial consultation on integrating the core narrative into Pivotal’s 2022 brand launch, spearheaded by Pentagram. I contributed to brand-book guidelines on voice and tone, brand differentiators, and Pivotal’s logo story. I also drafted versions of Pivotal’s one-sheet brand narrative (for internal and external distribution) and advised the CMO on editorial strategies provided by Brunswick.
